Years ago, I included in one of my public speaking topics the notion of “God, you’re beautiful…what we say, we say to God.” The premise was that when we call out beauty we are sharing that observation with God and He promptly opens our eyes to more of the beauty that He created, whether in people, nature or anywhere in Creation. I think about that presentation often, particularly when I am behind my camera or walking outdoors or contemplating with pen and paper in hand.
How much better would people treat each other if they saw beauty in others? How much more protective would people be of children, nature and animals if they saw beauty in each? The implications go beyond how people see things outside of them; they go even deeper…within themselves.
What could be the power of having an attitude and a perspective on the world and life that sees beauty? Ecclesiastes 3:11: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Indeed, if anything, we are overwhelmed by beauty to the point that we often do not notice. Subtle and sublime, miniscule and majestic, beauty is everywhere. The more we speak of it, the more we see. No matter how much we think we see, we cannot fully fathom the grandness of the beauty that surrounds us.
I am reminded of when parents compliment their young child’s art and place it on the refrigerator. Not long after, the young one brings another. And another. The more the art is appreciated, the more of it is shared by its creator. By grace, we are provided with improved sight to see more of the beauty that abounds thanks to the Creator. Call out beauty in what you say, what you write and what you create. You will soon see beauty everywhere.
