In just a few days, people will be opening gifts that have been carefully selected, colorfully wrapped and specially placed under decorated trees. Instead of focusing on gifts, we should prioritize presence.

Some people will be spending time with families, sometimes travelling to several gatherings over the course of the holiday season: prioritize presence. Some will spend quiet times with only one or just a few friends or loved ones: prioritize presence. Some will spend the day alone: prioritize presence.

To be present, pay more attention to the people than the gifts; to be present, listen to each other, laugh, cry, hug and hold; to be present, leave ego, rivalries and disagreements at the door and put on a coat of humility buttoned up with love. And for those who spend the days alone, the same applies: focus on the gift of life, the beauty of emotion, and the belief in love. It is love that is the true reason for the season; the Christmas Nativity is a show of love. Certainly we can show love to others, too.

Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season to all of you.
