The weather recently has allowed for days of opening windows to let in fresh air, and all drapes and blinds to let in the sunshine. While Vitamin D is sometimes referred to as the “happiness hormone,” I love the sunlight for a lot more than the Vitamin D it provides.
How Why do I love thee, Light? Let me count the ways:
- You were the first light source that I worked with in my early days with camera in hand (63 years ago). Photography is literally “light-drawing” and my preferred light source remains sunlight.
- You make me sweat. I like that. Especially when I am working on projects or riding my tractor at my “place away from places.” The warmth that causes the sweat reminds me of the benefits of honest labor.
- You make a great greeting and a wonderful departure. Sunrise creates beautiful colors in the sky and on the surfaces that reflects the light, a wonderful way to start the day; the time leading to sunset provides gorgeous colors to admire, especially after a busy day. The 30-60 minutes before sunset is considered the “golden hour” for outdoor photographic portraits because the warm colors and quality of light.
- You remind me how great and grand that Creation is. From 93 million miles away, I admire the energy, power and force of the sun…and to think there are trillions more “suns” in the universe.
There are more reasons. The important thing is to not take it for granted and to appreciate it, no matter the season or weather.
This blog section is titled Philo, which is Greek for loving, as in love of: for example, philanthropy: love of people/humanity; philosophy: love of knowledge or wisdom. My writings for Philo examine “love of” many things — both subtle and sublime — that comprise life and living.
